Thank you for choosing a handcrafted steel fire pit. With proper care, it will provide years of warmth, character, and unforgettable nights outdoors.
1. First Use
- Your fire pit will arrive with an initial high-heat paint and may have light oil on the surface.
- Start with a small, low fire to burn off any residue and begin the natural seasoning process.
2. Preventing Rust
Steel naturally develops a patina over time — this is normal. To slow rusting:
- Keep it dry when not in use. Water sitting in the bowl is the #1 cause of rust.
- Store under cover or indoors when possible.
- Apply a thin coat of cooking oil (canola, vegetable, etc.) to the interior and exterior. Heat will polymerize the oil, creating a protective layer similar to cast‑iron cookware.
- Avoid leaving ash inside — ash absorbs moisture and accelerates corrosion.
- Choose a well‑drained location and avoid direct contact with wet ground.
3. After Each Use
- Allow the fire pit to cool completely.
- Remove ash and debris.
- Wipe down moisture if present.
- Re‑apply a light coat of oil if the surface looks dry or chalky.
4. Long‑Term Protection
- Exterior surfaces can be coated with high‑heat paint if desired.
- Interior surfaces will burn off paint — oil seasoning is the best protection.
- For coastal or high‑humidity environments, more frequent oiling is recommended.
5. Heat & Safety
- Wood‑burning fire pits can reach 1,500–2,000°F.
- Only burn outdoors on a fire‑safe surface.
- Never leave a fire unattended.
- Keep children and pets at a safe distance.
6. Patina & Aging
Your fire pit will naturally darken, bronze, and weather over time. This patina is part of the steel’s character and does not affect performance. Regular care will keep it looking great and extend its life.Questions or Custom Orders?
